Silvija Vilka

[Lore]

Silvija Vilka, callsign Pulse, is a Latvian C.A.A.T. operative specializing in electronic warfare, cyber infiltration, and drone operations. Her most distinctive feature is her vibrant magenta hair, worn in extravagant twin ponytails off duty but tightly braided and clipped during operations.

The Trouble with Pulse

Silvija Vilka possesses the technical aptitude, reflexes, and tactical discipline expected of a C.A.A.T. operative. She is an accomplished specialist in electronic warfare, cyber infiltration, and unmanned systems, capable of manipulating hostile surveillance networks, disrupting communications, and deploying reconnaissance drones in support of her squad.

She is also, by nearly every account, an incorrigible troublemaker.

Her irreverent personality is immediately recognizable. Silvija is sarcastic, provocative, fiercely competitive, and seemingly incapable of resisting an opportunity to amuse herself at someone else's expense. Her flamboyant appearance, with its striking magenta hair and unapologetic personal styling, appears almost calculated to offend the sensibilities of more conventional military personnel.

During operations, however, that unruly hair is carefully braided and secured, her equipment meticulously prepared, and her attention directed toward the mission. Her outward irreverence should not be mistaken for operational carelessness.

She takes her work seriously.

Herself, considerably less so.

The Operator Behind the Attitude

Silvija's capabilities extend beyond conventional hacking. She understands electronic systems as interconnected environments, exploiting the relationships between sensors, communications, automated security, and human expectations.

Her preferred tools include compact reconnaissance drones, electronic countermeasures, and specialized intrusion equipment. She favors solutions that allow her squad to control an encounter before an adversary realizes an encounter has begun.

Among her teammates, Silvija's humor serves several purposes. It relieves tension, provokes competition, and occasionally tests the patience of those around her.

She is particularly fond of testing Tanya D'Gaul's.

The veteran operative occupies an unusual place in Silvija's professional life. Tanya is neither her regular commanding officer nor someone Silvija feels obliged to treat with excessive reverence. She is an experienced colleague, an informal mentor, and something resembling an older sister.

Silvija teases Tanya relentlessly, often about her age, her equipment, or her supposed inability to appreciate the sophistication of newer technology.

Yet beneath this teasing lies considerable respect and affection. In the field, Silvija is quick to protect Tanya's flank, often without being asked.

The relationship is reciprocal, although Tanya would probably dispute the extent to which she indulges Silvija's behavior.

The Lost Drone Incident

One particularly memorable incident began with Silvija constructing a small, high-performance racing drone during downtime at the barracks.

The drone was fast, agile, and exceptionally responsive.

Its intended purpose, on that occasion, was to annoy K'hraal.

K'hraal, Tanya's brown tabby companion and designated shadow unit, apparently took offense.

The ensuing pursuit began inside the barracks, where Silvija maneuvered the drone through the rooms and corridors while K'hraal gave chase.

Tanya was not amused.

The pursuit continued outside until K'hraal abruptly disappeared from sight.

Silvija turned the drone around, searching for him, apparently satisfied that her mechanical adversary had finally outmaneuvered the cat.

She was mistaken.

K'hraal had taken up an elevated position from which he could observe the drone's movements without being seen.

As it passed within range, he leaped.

The interception was successful.

K'hraal landed with the drone firmly in his mouth.

Before Silvija could recover her equipment, the cat raced toward a nearby lake, reached the shore, and plunged into the water.

He eventually emerged.

Alone.

Despite subsequent attempts to locate the missing aircraft, nobody has recovered it.

Its whereabouts remain unknown.

The incident is remembered less as a demonstration of K'hraal's unusual capabilities than as an embarrassing defeat for one of the division's most technically gifted drone operators.

Silvija had designed and controlled the machine.

K'hraal had selected the battlefield.

An Unconventional Professional

Incidents such as the loss of the racing drone illustrate a side of Silvija rarely apparent in formal operational records.

She is playful, occasionally exasperating, and possessed of an almost boundless appetite for competition. These traits coexist with genuine technical brilliance and a fierce commitment to her teammates.

Within Erika's squad, her value is not merely that she can penetrate a security network or pilot a drone through hostile territory. It is that her judgment, initiative, and creativity provide solutions that more conventional operators might never consider.

Silvija does not believe professionalism requires solemnity.

Her teammates may disagree with her methods of demonstrating this principle.

Particularly Tanya.

And, quite possibly, K'hraal.
